Turkey & Tinsel

Turkey & Tinsel kicks off the Christmas shopping season in Choctaw County. This event includes a Christmas Open House at participating Chamber member business, a Turkey Toss and a musical performance. Turkey & Tinsel is held the second Thursday of November.

The 2016 Turkey & Tinsel was held on November 10, 2016 with 15 local businesses participating in the Christmas Open House.

They were: Alfa Insurance, All About that Sass, Barlow Blue, Choctaw County School District – Central Office, Choctaw Plaindealer, Council House Café, Double Blessings Thrift Shop, Forget Me Not Florist, French Camp Bed & Breakfast, Hunt’s Furniture & Mattress, Log Cabin Gift Shop, Main Street Fabrics, Mitchell Dental Clinic, Pap’s Place and Southern Charm. Each participating business is a Chamber of Commerce member.

Back again for another year was the Smoked Turkey drawing. If a customer purchased $10 or more at participating businesses, they could enter their name into a drawing for a gift certificate for a smoked turkey from Sonny’s Smokehouse. The lucky winner is Karla Beard of French Camp. The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce sponsored this drawing.

Alan Sibley & The Magnolia Ramblers performed on the pavilion on Main Street in Ackerman. The Chamber of Commerce sponsored this performance with a door prize from Back Stage Pass that was sponsored by the Mississippi Arts Commission, Mississippi Main Street Association and Visit Mississippi.

Turkey Toss 2016 – Smash hit with 36 participants

Tossing a frozen turkey is harder than you think. Just ask our 36 participants in the first ever Turkey & Tinsel – Turkey Toss that was held on November 10, 2016.

Approximately 50 people came out to the depot parking lot in downtown Ackerman to find out what the Turkey Toss was. Children and adults took turns throwing a frozen turkey that landed from four feet to 57 feet.
